South Tyrol is a land of many facets, combining Italian flair in its capital and South Tyrolean tradition in the mountain villages, Mediterranean climate in the South and alpine scenery in the North.

And there is a lot to visit: South Tyrol offers a total of 800 castles, some of which are located in Wipptal. The most popular castles of the region are the Tyrol Castle near Merano, the Flavon/Haselburg Castle in Bolzano/Bozen, the Juval Castle in Val Senales/Schnalstal or the Churburg Castle near Sluderno/Schluderns.

Beside the 800 castles, there are over 100 museums awaiting you in South Tyrol, with a variety of interesting exhibitions. For instance, there is the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology. Here you can visit the Ice Man Ötzi. Also the Messner Mountain Museums are worth a visit.
