A winter holiday in South Tyrol: make it count at Gassenhof

A winter holiday in South Tyrol is a real treat for everyone: snowy mountains, fresh air, white meadows and forests... and our hotel in Ridanna/Ridnaun ... what a holiday! It is our mission to make your holiday truly unforgettable no matter if you prefer to lay low and kick back or explore and embark on new adventures. Ridanna Valley is ideal for a whole variety of winter activities. See for yourself and check out our tips for your winter holiday in South Tyrol.

A winter holiday in South Tyrol: hit the slopes!

Skiing is a definite go-go during your winter holiday in South Tyrol. Nearby our Hotel Gassenhof you find not one, but three ski resorts! All equipped with state-of-the-art lifts and perfectly groomed slopes. The ski resort Racines-Giovo/Ratschings-Jaufen is situated about half an hour drive from our hotel. The ski area offers a total of 25 slope kilometres and 5 kilometres for tobogganing.
If you spend your winter holiday in Val Ridanna/Ridnauntal, do not miss out on the ski resort Monte Cavallo/Rosskopf in Vipiteno/Sterzing or Ladurno/Ladurns in Val di Fleres/Pflerschtal. Monte Cavallo is situated at about 13 km and Ladurno at about 20 km from our Experience Hotel. If one is not enough, take both: with the combi card you get to explore both resorts with only one ski pass; this makes a total of 31 slope kilometres.
Ski newbies and kids find the little Gasse lift just beside our hotel. Kids up to eight years get to use the Gasse ski lift for free; other guests pay 10.00 euro for the day pass.

Treading lightly... snowshoeing in Ridanna

Snowshoeing is gaining momentum in South Tyrol. Val Ridanna/Ridnauntal offers plenty of possibilities for snowshoing. Some of the local mountain huts are also open in winter. Follow the snowy trails in snowshoes, treading lightly across the forest and you reach the huts in not time. The best part about snowshoeing: you do not sink into the snow. There is also a great range of well-maintained winter walking trails which are accessbile without snowshoes. Get our top tips at Gassenhof!

Enjoy the ride: sledging in South Tyrol

What is an active holiday in South Tyrol without a fun sleigh ride?! Sledging is not only great fun for kids, but also for adults. In Val Ridanna/Ridnauntal there is a whole variety of huts where you can hire a sledge and cruise down to the valley. Take one of our rental sledges at the hotel; the hire is free for our guests. There are five toboggan runs in the surroundings of our hotel. The runs are between one and five kilometres long and guarantee loads and loads of fun! Take the cable car to the top at Racines-Giovo/Ratschings-Jaufen ski resort and then cruise back to the valley.

Ski touring in South Tyrol

Ski touring is another popular sport in Ridanna/Ridnaun. Are you a fan of this eco-friendly winter sport? Great! South Tyrol offers fantastic slopes leading across pristine mountain nature. Once you have reached the very top you are rewarded with spectacular views of the South Tyrolean mountains. The best part, however, is to ski back down over fresh powder snow...
